Folder settings in Vista keep going back to the default settings

Even though I customize my folders for Videos/Music/Pictures etc the folders
keep going back to the default settings.

Its really driving me mad. I never had issues like this with Windows XP.

That's right. The Music template keeps on applying again and again on -some-
of my folders (which contain no _idea_ of media files), and don't want to
stay as I command. Creepy bs.

Hi GEO,

Do all of method two in this tutorial. It will reset all folder views and let Vista remember your settings as you had them when you close the window last.

Windows Explorer Folder View settings

You might find this helpful for folder templates and columns.

Windows Explorer - Folder Type Templates

Re: Folder settings in Vista keep going back to the default settings

Well, I've never imagined that one must follow a tutorial on how to make
this super-OS remember the file details' columns or folder templates. I'd
rather imagine that the programmers embedded this behaviour in Vista,
otherwise what's the purpose of the "Apply to all folders" button, whose
functionality was perfect on Win2000 and XP ? But anyway, once one admits
that this OS's interaction with the user is close to crap, one can go along
with Vista peacefully. I am one of these... tired users; I keep on posting
my bad news on this newsgroup with the hope that all these "minor"
inconveniences that gear up into pure annoyances will be eventually erased
by the next service pack. Because the way it interacts with the user as of
now, it is a shame. Sometimes, I think of Microsoft being sabotaged by
incompetent project managers - WHY ARE THERE ALL THOSE TUTORIALS TO TEACH ME
WHAT THE OS SHOULD KNOW TO DO BY DEFAULT ? I expect no answer, of course -
beyond swift reparations, or fast decomission, of Vista.

Hi Communikator,

I agree, Vista should be doing this by default. There is a bug somewhere causing this. Hopefully it will be sorted out in the SP1 rumored to be released in the Q1 of 2008. Until then, we always have the tutorials to help us out.

Sorry, we don't.

Is it now MS law that you have no right to use a computer if you don't have
an internet connection (and a fast one at that), and can't read their
version of English?

Hi Christopher,

LOL, That is a good one.

I have a broadband connection. Is that fast enough, or will I get a ticket for going to slow. (haha)
