Vista Won't Sleep and successfully resume.

Hi,

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on a slightly older machine with
2.66ghz Pentium 4 and 2gb ram and can not get Vista to sleep. If I select
sleep from the power options on start menu, or press the sleep button on my
keyboard the machine will power down as if entering sleep mode, but it will
then very quickly restart, however the desktop won't load. The screen stays
blank and the only option left is to press the reset button located on the
tower.

However when I hit the reset button the machine does not simply reset every
time. On occassions it will, but on other occasions it will resume Windows
from the sleep state earlier requested. But the desktop will still not load.
My monitor stays totall blank.

I have tried the obvious potential solutions including disabling the ability
of my mouse and keyboard to resume the computer from sleep mode, in the
anticipation that I would simply use the power button. I have also disabled
the ability of the ethernet port to wake the computer from sleep mode when I
thought it possible that my ADSL connection was waking the machine. I have
also updated my graphics port drivers too.

Could this be a hardware issue or does it sound like something which is
related to Windows, and if so does anyone know if MS is planning to issue
any patch or any fix in a future Service Pack for Vista?

Cheers,

Bradley

Have you checked to see if there is an updated BIOS available for your
motherboard? It's entirely possible that your PC's motherboard/BIOS doesn't
fully support all Vista features.

Re: Vista Won't Sleep and successfully resume.

Thanks for your reply. I have the latest BIOS, but my motherboard is an ASUS
P4B533-V

I have also noticed that if I leave the computer idle and expet it to enter
sleep mode it doesn't, despite it being set to after a delay of one hour.

Re: Vista Won't Sleep and successfully resume.

I had the same situation - briefly. I replaced the hybrid sleep
mode with HIBERNATE. Works fine. Unfortunately, except that the
modification began with Control Panel » Power Options, I cannot
recall the specific steps. Surely someone here will...
