| | mouse pointer "snap to" function In setting up my mouse pointer, I selected the "Snap To" function, which is supposed to send the pointer to a "default" position (like OK, for example). However, the mouse pointer is not going to the default positions. Instead it goes to some other area in the window. Any ideas what's going on? How do we fix this? Mike |

If it works under those conditions, the software is the issue. You can try simply uninstalling the software and rebooting but more than likely, this will require uninstalling the software, deleting the mouse in Device Manager, disconnecting the mouse or the wireless adapter for it, shutting down the system, reconnecting the mouse adapter, boot the system and let the system find the mouse. Then, check to see if the snap-to function works. -- Michael Solomon Backup is a PC user's best friend DTS-L.Org: http://www.dts-l.org/ |

| | Re: mouse pointer "snap to" function I don't think I installed the Intellipoint software when I upgraded to Vista. I could be wrong about that, so will try your suggestion. Can't harm anything. Will get back to you. | | Re: mouse pointer "snap to" function Michael, I followed your suggestion. First simply uninstalled the Intellipoint software. No change. So then I deleted the mouse from the Device Mgr, disconnected the mouse remote adapter from the pc, shut down the system (that took some figuring out as I am not used to using keyboard to do it), rebooted, and found that the mouse was immediately ready and useable. Vista found it and activated it without me having to do anything. Anyway, the problem still exists. Let me be more specific now: The pointer does show up at the default location, however, when I click nothing happens. I then move the mouse very slightly and discover that it is about 2-inches "northwest" of the default location. I can then move it down and click the button for the result I desire. Do you know what I mean? It's hard to describe. Should I start a case with Microsoft? I did not have that problem when I tried it but I am using a "wired" mouse, thus I don't know if this is anomaly related to wireless mice and while this is not a widely used feature, I haven't seen any other complaints about this from other wireless users. Are you using this mouse with a laptop or a PC? If a laptop, it may be some conflict with the touchpad that might be overcome by disabling the touchpad. If a PC, this issue may be specific to that mouse or its drivers and no, the left hand does not always talk to the right hand so just because it is a Microsoft Mouse, doesn't mean it is less likely to have an issue with Vista than another mouse. Next question, do you have access to an XP system? If yes, you might try this mouse on that system and see if you have the same issue. -- Michael Solomon Backup is a PC user's best friend DTS-L.Org: http://www.dts-l.org/ |

| | Re: mouse pointer "snap to" function Michael, you are terrific, thanks. I have a pc, which was running XP before I switched to Vista. The "snap to" mouse function worked perfectly on that OS. If yes, try that mouse on the Vista setup and see if snap-to works. If it does, there would appear to be some compatibility issue between the MS Optical Mouse 2000 and Vista. My only suggestion would be to use another mouse on the Vista PC. Either use the one that does work or you might look into purchasing a different mouse for the Vista setup. NOTE: the more additional functions you desire in a mouse, the more additional functions programmed into its software and driver, the greater the likelihood of compatibility issues. -- Michael Solomon Backup is a PC user's best friend DTS-L.Org: http://www.dts-l.org/ |
