Why did my Volume icon disapear from the system tray?

It has been there for months. I rebooted today and it is gone. right click on the start
menu, select properti, notification area......volume is greayed out so I can't select the
check box. The volume still works though. How do I get it back? Why would it just
disapear?
thanks

Try Logging Off, then back On. I don't know why it
happens, though. It has happened to me, occasionally, as well.

If dean-dean's suggestion doesn't work, try either reinstalling the drivers
for your soundcard or removing and reinstalling those drivers. You might
also check the soundcard manufacturer's website for the latest Vista
compatible drivers.

Sometimes drivers can become corrupted and need to be reinstalled in order
to correct issues that result from the corruption.
