Much depends on what Vista is installed. One needs a reasonably well
specified computer. Even then, it has issues which will be fixed in time.
One thing to bear in mind is that Vista has more security jumps to negotiate
than XP, but that is not such a bad thing.

Ensure that you run Disk Cleanup now and again to keep temporary internet
files and restore points in check.

Dump any 3rd party IE toolbars. They prove to be more of a hindrance than
help.

Try to keep at least 25% of your boot drive free. Hard drives that are
overly full are never happy regardless of what runs on them.

Norton and McAfee anti-virus solutions will slow you down too. Look to using
AVG or Avast, but completely remove all of Norton or McAfee first.

NIS2007 won't slow down Vista at all. it will slow down XP after boot
up, however. AVG was a PIG on my Vista laptop. I can 't believe why
anyone recommends it.

AVG had issues at first, but I think that they have been overcome.

NIS 2007 will have an impact on performance, as will anything Symantec or
McAfee.. your choice to run with what you feel is best..

I have yet to see AVG cause that.
Norton, on the other hand, is well known for that.
If it works for you, congrats.
I won't allow it near any of the 250+ machines I manage!

sorry, but NIS2007 does NOT impact performance at all on the 2 vista
machines i have. No interference at boot up, when I want to open a
program when the desktop has finished loading. It's about unobtrusive a
virus program as I've ever seen. AVG brings up a frickin' window to
show a scan, at boot up. IMO, that blows, big time!

since u don't use it, how can you comment on it's performance? I see
your type on NG's all the time--slamming a program they haven't used in
years. IF you loaded it, you'd see what i mean, but I doubt you'll give
it a try. stop living in the past. NIS2007 is one of the best AV
programs out there. I hear that NIS2008 is much slower than NIS2007.
damn Symantec, anyway! LOL

Re: vista is too pongerous. why didnt they make it quick & light

Dave;
Many have been burned by the huge performance hits in the past and are
reluctant to try again considering the higher cost in comparison to other
options that work very well.

Symantec will have to do far more than come out with a newer product before
I will even consider installing on any computer I control.

That probably represents the experience of many with Symantec consumer
products.
