Word 2007-unable to save as old version

I have a new computer and have installed word 2007. I cannot save a file to
enable it to be compatable with older versions. It says that adobe reader
cannot open the file. It saves the file as something to do with adobe reader.
It also will not open any files I receive that are older versions.

Can anyone help

Note that this is not a Vista question, and really doesn't belong here
in a Vista newsgroup. I'll try to help, but if my answer isn't
sufficient, you should re-ask your question in a Word newsgroup;
that's where the Word experts (I'm not one) hang out.

By default, Word 2007 saves it files in the new .docx format instead
of the old .doc one.

You can optionally change to the .doc format by doing a "Save as"
instead of "Save" and choosing .doc or "Save as Word 07-2003
document."

Alternatively, the people you send your files to might want to add the
ability to open .docx files to their earlier version. Send them to
this page: "Open a Word 2007 document in an earlier version of Word"
at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...444731033.aspx

?? Adobe reader can open neither .doc nor .docx files. Why would you
expect it to.

Exactly what "something to do with adobe reader" mean? Please be
specific.

Are these .doc files? Word 2007 should open .doc files just fine.

Re: Word 2007-unable to save as old version

HI,

Thanks for trying to help. I am new to this and did not realise there is a
word discussion group. Took me ages to find this.

I have tried doing save as word 07-2003 but when I went back to it, it was a
white square with the adobe reader logo on. Whe I tried to open it it then
said adobe reader could not open it. This happens when receiving an old word
document from other people. Adobe reader opens but says it cannot open it. My
sister has word 2007 which I gave her from my disc but she has windows xp.
She is able to save as the old word. This is why I thought it may have
somethig to do with vista. I have experienced lots of problems getting things
compatable with vista e.g modem, printer, scanner.

Thanks

Jan
