Vista - Folder View in Windows Explorer

How can I set a default folder view in Windows Vista Ultimate x64 to be used
in all directories I browse?

It seems that even if i uncheck Remember Each Folder View Setings and hit
Apply To All Folders button won't do it.

All I want to see is detaied view of Name, Date Modified, Type and Size for
no matter what I have in each folder. All sorted by File Type and no
groupings.

How can I do that?

Hi TMA,

First, you will need to reset Vista's folder view settings so it will remember your settings again. This tutorial will show you how.

This tutorial will show you how to change the folder template to how to want it, and how to apply those changes to all of the same folder type templates. You will need to change the folder type templates to "All Items" and select "Details" in the View menu for what you are wanting.

Hi,
is there an setting that allows me to open the next folder with the view of the present one? That means for example: I have folder1 opened with tile view, change the view to list view, then I click folder2 and I expect it to open with list view too, and so on! I want that the actual view is used for the next folder.
DOpus and Ultraexplorer have this feature, UE option is "copy previous folder" .

Sorry, but that option is not available in Windows Explorer.

However, you can apply METHOD TWO in the tutorial below to reset all folder views to "details" or one of you choice instead. You can also do step 30 on to apply the same folder view settings to all folders that have the same folder template as the current folder.

thanks for the quick response. I have list view as default already!
Ok, then I can quit searching! A real pity! I think it should be coded such that resetting folder view and unchecking "remember folder settings" imply the behaviour I described! This would be logic imho!

Yeah, it will only remember (usually) per folder per folder template.

Guys, I have tried what you all suggested here and in some four other forums.
I tweaked the registry and did all that can be done, I did so on my Vista 32, Vista 64 and Windows 7 x32 systems and I can safely say that all Vista 32/64 and Windows 7 x32 DO NOT REMEMBER folder settings AT ALL no matter what you do, so do not waste your time any further.
The shear amount of complaint out there and the massive number of people trying to rectify this stupid shortsightedness of MS only proves my point.
The explorer folder settings work in a haphazardly manner in Vista and Win 7.
It is amazing how ignorant Microsoft was and continue to be, they have been trying for years now to come up with an operating system that beats the XP, they do not seem to come close to meeting it! Vista was and will always be a failure, most of the people I know trashed it and opted to remain on XP. Win7 is supposed to be THE savior op sys, but from the RC version and seeing how ignorant MS has been in neglecting to rectify one of the most annoying shortfalls of Vista (the Explorer not remembering folder settings, of course!) it looks like Win 7 will follow suit and fail, what a shame!
To me there is no use for a windows system that does not remember where and how the windows are arranged? When you deal with hundreds of icons and as much windows and when you get used to arranging different ones in different sizes, views and sorting orders it becomes impossible to accept a new operating system that chooses to open windows "wherever it wants"!
I was bit$#@*g about my stupid MacBook MAC OSX system which also fails to remember window sizes and views and sort order but I though that was because Apple had fallen behind MS over ten years ago and will never catch up!!
What is going on with these two genius companies?? Can't they make anything as simple as remembering where and how we want things set? Friendly Graphical user Interface my a*$. Now we have Vistas and Win 7s taking up as much as 13 GBs on our hard disks but failing to do the simple stuff that XP does faster and cleaner and occupying 300Mbs only!!!!!!!
Seems I will be using XP until they come up with Windows 17 or later which maybe, just maybe, we allow us to set our windows in the manner we want, not as Bill gates and Co want, nor as Steve Jobs and his bunch care to allow us to!
Sorry for the bit^&&*g but I am really fed up with the ignorance and shortsightedness of MS and Apple!
