DEFRAG messed up Vista

After 5 hours of defrag running ( can't see if it is doing anything ) I
canceled it.
Laptop is only 3 months old with not much on it. After that it would NOT
start. Had to use F8 to last good config. to get it running. Now ALL restore
points are gone, have a 120GB hard drive with only 50GB left and can't use
disk error check anymore, pc turns black and freezes. I don't know what's
taking space on the drive and I know I should have about 80GB with system
installed and some downloads that are on it.
I will never defrag with vista again and I really don't want to do a restore.
Does anyone have a idea as to what the heck happened with vista defrag.

Re: DEFRAG messed up Vista

I know that, but I don't have it to run on it's own, I perfer to to do my own
maintance on my pc's when I am ready, then I know it's getting done.

What I am having a problem with is after the LONG defrag. I lost restore
pts. and hard drive increased by almost 30GB free space gone, and check disk
don't work.
Tried 3rd party defrag. after this mess, and that don't work either.

Re: DEFRAG messed up Vista

i know you don't want to but after doing a clean restore which is formatting
the drive before you do the restore, me at least the pc worked with no
problem and was faster than ever before, can't figure out why to this day.

just a wild guess: hdd overheating. it would happen no matter which os you
got installed.
