Re: clean installation....

If your computer came with Windows 2000 installed, I would doubt that you
will have a successful upgrade. Run the Upgrade Advisor first.
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/...deadvisor.mspx

Why do you want to upgrade? Do you have a piece of software that requires
it? Do you have a piece of hardware that requires it? If not, stay calm and
wait until either of those come to reality. Most olders systems are simply
overwhelmed by Windows Vista. I urge you to wait until you buy a new
computer.

To answer your question, Microsoft says:
"If you are currently using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP
Professional x64, you are eligible for an upgrade copy to a corresponding or
better edition of Windows Vista, but a clean installation is required."

Re: clean installation....

Hi,

Yes, but it will be a clean install, and user settings, accounts, and
programs will not be migrated.

Re: clean installation....

Thats what I wanted. I wasn't sure if you could do a clean install with an
upgrade disk.

Re: clean installation....

He doesn't need to do that workaround. The Win2000 installation will
validate the upgrade disk, but the only option open from there will be a
custom install.

Yes, Win2K is a qualifying product for an Upgrade to Vista Home
Premium. However, because of the differences between the two operating
systems, a clean installation will be required.

Upgrade Paths from Previous Versions

However, if your computer is old enough to be running Win2K, some of
its components may not meet Vista's higher needs. I'd strongly suggest
that you run the Upgrade Adviser before going any further down this
road. While not 100% accurate, this tool should give you a fair idea of
any stumbling blocks:
