| | system lockup when accessing large files from IDE Hey guys, I been running into this weird issue. My main Vista drive is on a SATA drive. I have an IDE drive with my extra stuff on it, and whenever a program tries to read a large amount of data or something (so far, 4/5gb+), then the entire system will lockup, and require a reboot. For example, trying to load a virtual machine that I have saved on my external drive will crash the system. Also if uTorrent is accessing a large file, it'll crash the system. I do have the latest BIOS updates for my mobo etc, as well as the latest drivers. Any suggestions? |

(or use Seagate's SeaTools Desktop). You will create a bootable CD with the file you download. Boot with it and do a thorough test of the IDE drive. If it fails any physical tests, replace it. Certainly the problem could be caused by other things, but I would suggest starting with that. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" | | Re: system lockup when accessing large files from IDE Thanks for answering. The drives, both of them, seem to be fine. i used the manufacturer stuff (western digital on the IDE drive). My primary drive is a SATA drive. |

If this is a new problem, what changed from when things worked? Got a big enough power supply? Can you transfer big files when using a different operating system; i.e., booted up into Knoppix?
