Re: outlook express with windows vista

Windows Mail is the successor to Outlook Express.
One cannot install Outlook Express in Windows Vista.

Re: outlook express with windows vista

The only way you could run OE instead of WinMail in Vista would be
to run an instance of XP in a virtual machine within Vista. So the answer
to your question is a squishy, "No, you can't run OE in Vista."

Windows Mail is essentially the latest version of Outlook Express.
They just changed the name for it in Vista.

No, you can not use an older version of it.

Re: outlook express with windows vista

they are different under the bonnet - message storage, setting up, importing
old messages, etc

but once it's actually set up & working i don't know how you can tell the
difference

Re: outlook express with windows vista

Windows Mail is so much like OE, I can't understand why she would be having
a problem. Windows Mail, however, doesn't access Hotmail and Windows Live
Mail would be a good replacement. It is quite different but works well

Gary, try Thunderbird, it is very like OE and does newsgroups as well.
It may just suit her without too much training.

I tried using WinMail and had nothing but problems where messages would
get stuck - a common problem I found after doing some research. I
downloaded Thunderbird from Mozilla. Works very similar to Outlook
Express and the newsgroups work once you get all the settings correct.
