| | sync center I need to know how to delete offline network files from a windows vista ultimate laptop. I managed to deactivate the synchronization, but I can not find any information as where are those files located in the local hard drive of that machine. My problem is that it has taken almost all the free space in that drive. Please advise how to resolve that issue, thanks. -- Maxwell |

Please advise how to resolve I think if you disable all offline folders, it is supposed to delete the files cached on your local machine. However I've certainly got into the situation where left-over offline files took up many gigabytes of disk. First, try these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Click Network and Internet, and then click Offline Files. 3. On the General tab, click View your offline files. 4. In the Offline Files folder, right-click the cache of the offline files that you want to delete, and then click Delete Offline Copy. Note that there is an issue which sometimes prevents you from deleting offline files, if they are in the "ghosted" state. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/938092 You can also delete the cached files manually. Offline files are stored under a directory called C:\Windows\CSC ("csc" == client-side caching). By default, no-one has permissions to this directory except the sync service. You need to take ownership of the CSC directory, and then grant yourself permissions to have full control of the directory and all subdirectories. You need to do this, even if you are an Administrator - the Administrator has no automatic access to the CSC directory. After you have taken full control of the CSC directory, delete the cache under the CSC directory you wish get rid of (there may be several different caches, if different users all have CSC enabled). After you have deleted the cached files, ideally you should remove the permissions from yourself again, so that the permissions are back were they started. But definitely - try to use the official Control Panel method first, before you go hacking with CSC folder permissions. Only do that as a last resort, if you can't delete the files any other way.
