Microsoft stupidity?

Downloading the Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) for Vista.

"The links in this section correspond to separate files available in
this download. Download the files most appropriate for you."

Windows6.0-KB917607-x64.msu

or

Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu

How the heck is the ordinary user supposed to know which of these
files to download?

Re: Microsoft stupidity?

I guess that MS works on the premise that if a user knows that he/she needs
the file and knows where and how to get it, that the same person will also
know that x64 refers to 64bit and x86 refers to 32bit.. for something more
plausible, contact MS.. :-)

Re: Microsoft stupidity?

For 32-bit Vista: Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu

For 64-bit Vista: Windows6.0-KB917607-x64.msu

Go to Start > Welcome Center > View Computer Details
and look under System to determine which version of Vista
you have.

If you have Vista 64-bit, download the first (x64) file. If you have a
32-bit version, download the second (x86) file.

Maybe x64 is for the 64 bit version of Vista and x86 is for the 32 Bit
Version.

Re: Microsoft stupidity?

Microsoft should be making an OS and Web services for the masses,
the masses are its client base, and to serve those clients in the best
manner possible should be its number one goal.

Number one goal, yes, even above making money. They will keep making money
if they keep the user base happy and they serve them better and better.

Vista is a pile of CRAP that is not serving their client base well at all...
and the clients are running back the the OS that works before MS started to
screw up. But XP is old and IF something else comes up that people can
actually use,
they will start to migrate...

However both Linux and Mac OS cannot fit the picture well yet...

So there is a vacant seat for someone who knows what he/she is doing...

I am waiting.. something will come out of this.....

will someone take the initiative?

Or will Microsoft shape up and deliver quality ????

Why use a sig that you don't believe in?
You only believe in free speech unless you want it stopped.

You either believe in free speech or you don't there isn't a halfway house.
I can see you saying "I can say what I want but he insulted me so I want him
gagged".
