| | It takes so long to scan a setup program--How can i do If double click a huge(500MB) setup file( it's huge because it contains some archive content ), Vista will takes avery long time to scan it to determine whether to pop up a dialog that asks you to give admin right to go on. Such time cost is obviously not needed. Didn't microsoft think of this before? How can i avoid this unnecessary time wasting ? Thanks. |

| | Re: It takes so long to scan a setup program--How can i do that may be the defender scanning the file before it actually executes however, i have a relatively old processor (athlon xp 1700+ @ 1,4 ghz) and slow memory (133mhz), and i had basically the same use case without taking a lot of time (lets say about 15-20 seconds?), windows defender is too darn fast scanning if you have an antivirus installed, most probably its the source of the problem either way, try deactivating temporarily the antivirus, and if not enough, deactivate the defender also |

| | Re: It takes so long to scan a setup program--How can i do Hi Jume, The time cost is not like your thought (15-20 sec), usually it will takes about 2 min or even more. My CPU is Core E6320 and my av software is KIS 7. I think that problem should not come from KIS's scanning, because if i use kis to do a manually scan for that huge file, kis will tell me it's not infected in less than 1 sec. | | Re: It takes so long to scan a setup program--How can i do then i'm afraid i don't really know where to look, however i'm pretty sure that 2 minutes is not a typical time i would test deactivating basically all my running software anyways, who knows, not only the anti-malware mess the system up... unfortunately... |

| | Re: It takes so long to scan a setup program--How can i do Hi Jume, i seriously doubt that it's all about Vista's UAC which carefully check my setup file to determine whether executing it needs admin privilege. I conclude this because that problem is still there after i turn off all my system protections. Besides, I don't find anything abnormal in my system, it just runs perfectly. Have you ever tried to execute a 500MB sized setup file in Vista before? If not, you should have a try. But I've never seen a way to set a file so that I wouldn't be scanned in the first place. My guess is, we'll have to find a special place to put it on your computer. I'll look into this tonight. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...1b78d1033.mspx -- Munchie |

| | Re: It takes so long to scan a setup program--How can i do Hi Munchie, I just wonder why your first reaction to this problem is to find a 'special' place to bypass the scan. Thanks for your help. May i ask which timezone are you in? because your opinion might take a very long time to "reach my mind" (guess that i was asleep when you reply). Also, directly sending me email would be a faster way. <dextml?gmail.com> Best regard, DeXtmL (Thanks alway goes for your kind heart) "munchie" wrote: Quote: > On Oct 6, 1:24 am, DeXtmL <DeX...@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: > > Hi Jume, > > > > i seriously doubt that it's all about Vista's UAC which carefully check my > > setup file to determine whether executing it needs admin privilege. > > I conclude this because that problem is still there after i turn off all my > > system protections. > > Besides, I don't find anything abnormal in my system, it just runs perfectly. > > > > Have you ever tried to execute a 500MB sized setup file in Vista before? > > If not, you should have a try. > > > > Regards, > > DeXtmL > > > > "Jume" wrote: Quote: > > > then i'm afraid i don't really know where to look, however i'm pretty sure > > > that 2 minutes is not a typical time Quote: > > > i would test deactivating basically all my running software anyways, who > > > knows, not only the anti-malware mess the system up... unfortunately... > I just don't think it's possible.
