| | Windows Vista freeze I recently upgraded my computer so I can run Vista Home Premium. I changed my motherboard and processor. I have a AMD 4000 proc. and Nvidia 6100 video. I recently downloaded ALL new driver updates from Nvidia. I also downloaded and installed updates from Microsoft. I ran the compatibillity test and everything checks-out. My computer randomly crashes. It works great for a while then suddenly it freezes with lines going horizantally across the monitor, forcing me to turn off the computer. The tech that installed the motherboard said he thinks it may be a driver issue, but I already made downloads today to update everything. Although, the tech didn't check anything because he charges $95 per hour. I also reinstalled Windows but the same thing happens. I can be doing anything when it freezes. Please Help. Does anyone have any suggestions to what the problem may be? |

| | RE: Windows Vista freeze Don't install ANY hardware Driver updates from Microsoft Updates. Always go to the hardware manufacturer's website to get them. Microsoft hardware updates may have overwritten the Nvidia drivers. "broid23" wrote: Quote: > I recently upgraded my computer so I can run Vista Home Premium. | | Re: Windows Vista freeze When you reinstalled did you..... Delete the partition or overwrite things? I recommend Delete. Install you motherboard drivers? Install video drivers form the manufactures web site? If yes, It may be a Memory Chip. It may be a heat issue. Is the CPU fan installed correctly? It may be a power supply failing. | | RE: Windows Vista freeze I updated the bios from the Biostar website. The problem was solved. The video drivers were never right due to outdated bios. The Nvidia Geforce 6100M9 motherboard has problems with Vista. I called the manufacture of the motherboard, which is Biostar, and they sent me the bios file via email. After the update the correct driver installed. | | Re: Windows Vista freeze You have quoted my exact problem (the vertical lines upon freeze up!) Mine even, at times, locks up on the Vista screensavers or right in the middle of a program. | | RE: Windows Vista freeze Have you checked Problem Reports and Solutions for any logged reports that might give a hint of what might be causing the problem, whether hardware or software failure? Also check the Event Viewer (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer), check to see if there any logged events that might help determine the cause of the freeze. It could be number of factors: memory, graphics, attached device etc. -- Andre Blog | http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Windows Vista Quick Start Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog...3DB!9709.entry "unknown" wrote: Quote: > |
