I got information from internet to shrink vol., create new vol. & give it new
name but I can't assign new name. It is showing "not enough memory."

Re: installing XP as duel with vista

in a duEl between Vista and XP , XP will ALWAYS win hands down everytime

If you want to duAl boot Vista and XP then

The steps are easy IF the you have the drivers for XP for your machine - I
say this because some companies do not support XP at all now.. but I think
Dell would.

First of all BACK UP all critical data... things you need and you wont want
to lose in case a boo-boo happens.

1) Create new parition with a partition manager like acronis, or add a new
second disk

2) install XP on the new parition or second disk

WARNING at this time you will not be able to boot into vista*** ONLY*** XP
The data will have remained intact though.

3) Do one of the following to restore the vista bootloader:

a)Boot into XP and reinstall the vista bootloader with this free app
http://www.vistabootpro.org/

OR

b) Use the vista dvd to repair the vista bootloader so that xp and vista
will be listed.

if you need any clarification post back... I will be happy to help someone
who is going to use XP again :-)

Re: installing XP as duel with vista

Vista is stupid (TM).. it does not always let you shrink the partition the
way you want..

if you have only one disk I suggest you use the latest versions of either:

Acronis disk Director http://www.acronis.com
Paragon disk Manager http://www.paragon-software.com

If you have two disks install XP on the second one. (NOT an external USB
drive!)

Re: installing XP as duel with vista

Rather than attempting to dual-boot withWindows XP
(a difficult installation procedure when you already have Vista installed)
review the following:

Open Power Options (its in the Control Panel) and then
place a dot next to High Performance.

Next:

Open Device Manager (its in the Control Panel) and then
right-click on your hard drive (under Disk Drives). Click
on "Policies" and make sure there are check marks next to
"Optimize for Performance", "Enable write caching on
the disk", and "Enable advanced performance", then click OK.

Next, perform a Disk Cleanup:

Click on the blue Vista start button and then on the Computer
entry in the Start Menu. Right-click on your hard drive and
select Properties > Disk Cleanup > Files from all users.....
More Options > Clean Up (System Restore and Shadow Copies).

Consider installing addition RAM. If you add an additional
512MB RAM, overall performance will increase significantly.
Visit: http://www.crucial.com/ and run the Crucial System Scanner Tool.

Re: installing XP as duel with vista

Hi,

Hard disk contains four partitions (C:, D other twos provided by dell (one
partition used for recovery process and another forgot). Can I install XP on
D: Drive? If yes, how? If I boot machine and insert XP disk, it will not
go..what is trick?
