| | Re: Display the actual type, rather than the description of the ty I'm sorry but you have misunderstood the question. I already have that unticked. When I display a folder and sort by file type, the file type is not the actual extension, eg ".doc", but Microsoft's description, eg "Microsoft Word Document". I want to display ".doc". That way I can sort alphabetically by type not by the description of the type. -- Doug "Taibear ios" wrote: Quote: > Yes it is possible > > Control panel> press the CLASSIC VIEW link on the LEFT> Folder options > > view> DEselect the one that says "HIDE extension for know file types" > > > > "Doug" <Doug@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news 2D05EB4-B712-4E27-BB5C-217D06D13A16@xxxxxxQuote: > > Is it possible, in Windows Explorer Search, to display the actual type, > > rather than the description of the type? eg .mp3 rather than "MPEG > > Layer...." > > -- > > Doug > > > |

| | Re: Display the actual type, rather than the description of the ty If you sort on "Type", it still groups the files the way you want, except it doesn't show .doc The extension is shown as in the Name field, unless you have the extensions still hidden. To show the file extensions, click on Organize - Folder and Search Options - View - uncheck [ ] Hide extensions for known file types OK "Doug" <Doug@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3B7657C8-7729-424C-B4F3-7D7185833A5E@xxxxxx Quote: > I'm sorry but you have misunderstood the question.
