Administrator Cannot Rename/Cut Files on Harddrive

Sirs,

A while ago I was tampering with the security policies and ownership etc,
and recently I have found that I am no longer able to rename or cut files and
folders in certain locations. I cannot remember what all I changed, and am
thus unable to revert them by hand. But as far as I can remember, all I did
was add my name to a couple of things, or make it so certain things could be
done by any user.

Please let me know what my options are or of any need for more information.
If you so desire, I can export my security policies, etc, for you perusal.

Thank you,
~David

Re: Administrator Cannot Rename/Cut Files on Harddrive

Click on "Computer" located in the Start Menu and then
right-click on your hard drive and select Properties.
Click on the Security tab and reset your security settings.

Re: Administrator Cannot Rename/Cut Files on Harddrive

Thank you for the response.

I right-clicked on the harddrive in question (Drive D) and gave "Users,"
"Administrators," and "Authenticated Users" full control over the entire
drive, and still I am unable to rename files. I suppose I should be more
clear, in that, there is no box that pops up or something to let me know that
I don't have permission to rename files. No, instead, after a rename
operation (where I’m attempting to rename a folder), Vista complains that
“the folder does not exist,” and reverts it back to “New Folder.”

I didn’t realize this before, but I can rename files just fine. I can also
cut files just fine. But if I try to cut and paste folders, nothing happens.
If I try to rename a folder, the above message appears.

Hopefully that will help narrow down the possible causes.

Thank you for your help,
~David
