Grouping similar taskbar buttons - help!

I have this selected in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window but it
isn't working. What gives?

Yes, I've even rebooted and still no change.

Re: Grouping similar taskbar buttons - help!

Remember though, it does not group the Taskbar buttons unless the Taskbar is
filled with multiple application windows of many opened applications. What
you want it to do is group a single application even when the Taskbar is not
filled. The group option in Vista Taskbar properties does not do that.

Re: Grouping similar taskbar buttons - help!

You're right! That is what I want it to do. I just tested it and it took 8
windows before it kicked into "grouping" mode. I wish there was a tweak
(like the old days) where you could specify it. Thanks for your help.

There is a tweak.

Go to Start and type: regedit.exe in the search box. In the results,
right click regedit.exe and select the Run As Administrator option.

In the registry editor, navigate to the following Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

In the right side pane, right click an empty spot and select New / D-WORD
(32-bit value).
Name the new Value: TaskbarGroupSize (Case sensitive)
Double click this new value.
In the Edit dialog, type a 2 in the Value Data line.
Click OK.
Exit everything and reboot the computer.

This will cause the Taskbar to group the buttons when there are 2 or more
applications opened in the same program.
