| | Chkdsk Freeze at 3% - Missing 31GB hard disk space I have a brand new HP laptop with windows Vista Home Premium. After calculating and adding all the files and folders (including hidden and file system files) The complete space occupied is 12GB. When I right click drive C and click properties it says that out of 140GB I have 94GB left. Computer will boot to desktop if i dont run chkdsk. I can not modify partition sizes since windows claims my C drive is unstable - and i should run chkdsk to fix this. I have ran Defrag successfully but no help. Here comes the stinky part. When i run chkdsk on step 1 of 5, 2-3% in it freezes. I have once left this laptop on overnight (over 11 hrs) didnt move at all. So a working laptop, missing drive space, cant complete chkdsk, CAN ANYONE HELP ME please??? :x |

| | Re: Chkdsk Freeze at 3% - Missing 31GB hard disk space Perform a Disk Cleanup: Click on the blue Vista start button and then on the Computer entry in the Start Menu. Right-click on your hard drive and select Properties > Disk Cleanup > Files from all users..... More Options > Clean Up (System Restore and Shadow Copies). I would not recommend attempting to modify partition sizes on a computer that came preinstalled with Windows Vista. If you ever had to restore your computer with the manufacturer's restore CD, it would change your entire drive to its original factory drive configuration. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User --------------------------------------------------------------- "Jetaimebelgium" wrote: I have a brand new HP laptop with windows Vista Home Premium. | Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Chkdsk Freeze at 3% - Missing 31GB hard disk space Thank you Carey for the reply. I am also encountering a similar problem to what "Jetaimebelgium" has decibed in his post. I have performed the Disk Cleanup and am still encountering the "Freezing" problem during a chkdsk. I have also noticed that when trying to boot into safe mode, my computer will freeze while it is loading the drivers. Could the two problems indicate a larger one? |
