| Guest | Lexmark X2480 I might be having the same problem as Epson DX4000 below. But my computer isn't new. I let some idiots install Vista and they couldn't get the printers to install. They said that I would have to buy a new printer, but my Lexmark X2480 has a Vista driver available on the Lexmark site. I downloaded it - I checked and it and my Vista are both 32-bit - and still can't get a peep out of the printer. The printer did a self test okay. I changed the USB cable just in case. I don't know what to do. Rebecca |

| Guest | Re: Lexmark X2480 Did you make the mistake of having the printer USB cable connected to the computer when you installed the downloaded Vista drivers? Printer USB cables must be DISCONNECTED during the driver install until the install program prompts you to connect the USB cable and power on the printer. If I were you, I would unplug the printer USB cable, go to Control Panel (Classic view) > Printers, right click your Lexmark X2480, and select Delete. To make sure the printer is fully uninstalled, in the Printers window, go to Menu (Alt key if not visible) > File > Run as administrator > Server Properties (approve UAC), click the Drivers tab, and if the printer is listed there, highlight it and press the Remove button, press Apply, and press OK. With the printer USB cable UNPLUGGED, reboot your computer, run the printer driver install again, and ONLY connect the USB cable and power up the printer when PROMPTED to do so by the driver install program. | Guest | Re: Lexmark X2480 The only printer in the printers tab is my ancient hp designjet. It is so old that there aren't ANY drivers for it on the hp site, but it is the only printer I can get to work with Vista. Too bad that it uses expesive 36-inch wide roll paper! I don't know how the PC was started the first time after the Vista Business software was loaded because I let some IDIOTS who said they knew how, install it. At least I had the satisfaction of stopping payment on the check I paid them with. But now I am afraid to let anyone else touch it, and I don't know how myself. But back to the problem. Since the printer is not there, (or in the server properties) I unplugged the USB cable and turned off the power and restarted. When it said to plug in and turn on, I did. Nothing happened. The button at the bottom that says "Continue" stayed grayed out. Help! | Guest | Re: Lexmark X2480 Rebecca, Sorry, I am out of ideas. You will probably get better results by posting to the microsoft.public.windows.vista.print_fax_scan group. There are some real experts there who do not seem to monitor other groups. Just include all the specifics that you have tried. Good luck. I Bleed Blue and Gold GO BEARS!
