driver for Seagate external drive?

Will a SEAGATE 80 GB EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE USB/2.0 7200 RPM 2MB require a
driver to run in Vista Business? If so, do you have a link to one?

Re: driver for Seagate external drive?

The only thing it needs is the USB 2.0 driver that came with your mobo
....once plugged in Vista should come up with "new device"
If it is not formatted you will need to go to
Admin.Tools/comp.management/disk management and format the drive

Re: driver for Seagate external drive?

its just classed as a normal usb device so drivers will be built in - however, there have been reports that some external drivers don't work immediately with vista.

Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Re: driver for Seagate external drive?

I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 bit and use 3 different USB External Drives and have no problems. There are even times when I have two of them running at the same time. You should not have any problem at all.

Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Re: driver for Seagate external drive?

Are you wanting to use the external drive for backing up your system? If so then yes you would need a backup software. The one I use is Acronis True Image , it allows you to make a boot recovery disk and then back up your complete system to the external drive. Also if I remember correctly some of the external drives had the one touch back up software.

Re: driver for Seagate external drive?

thanks. i will be purchasing a regular external, not a dedicated backup unit.
it will be used for backing up but for storage as well. thanks again and
this should take care of my question. mike
