| | updates -- cd/dvd drives When i first installed Vista, my cd and dvd drives worked just fine, but once windows updated ( not sure which updates are creating the problem) but they stopped working, so i tried to do a restore point, which it doesnt seem to let me go back any farther than 1 day. If i go to my device manager, they do appear as being present, however when i click on update driver, it continues telling me that the drivers are up to day, so why wont either of my drives work at all??? I cant exactly put my cd in the drive and do a "repair" since neither drive is working, so now what? |

| | Re: updates -- cd/dvd drives Hi, You might first check for loose cabling inside the tower. A move might have jarred something loose, reseating may resolve it if there is an intermittent connection. To my knowledge, nothing on Windows Update has done anything to optical drives, though it is conceivable that perhaps there was a controller driver update to your system. If this is the case, then rolling back to the previous version of the controller cable driver may help. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "jayoftheredwoods" <jayoftheredwoods@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:FDEA72C1-A950-4788-B620-2186FFCF0AB1@xxxxxx Quote: > When i first installed Vista, my cd and dvd drives worked just fine, but > once > windows updated ( not sure which updates are creating the problem) but > they > stopped working, so i tried to do a restore point, which it doesnt seem to > let me go back any farther than 1 day. | | RE: updates -- cd/dvd drives I am having the same problem with my computer, One day I had my CD/DVD Drives and the next day they were gone. The person that I purchased the computer from wants to charge me to clean out my computer and reinstall everything. If this is a Vista issue than there should be a way for me to fix my own computer and not spend the money to have someone strip everything from my computer and make me loose all my homework assignments.
