| | CD/DVD Rom Issue I've tried searching for a similar issue to mine, but can find nothing that works thus far so I'll post this in hope that someone can help. My DVD/CD-ROM Drive is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B SCSI CdRom Device (as listed in Device Manager) and will no longer burn anything. Due to my lack of experience with Vista, previously I had installed Nero 6 and 7 (at different times) and Roxio MyDVD8 and believe this to be where the error began. I had previously had the Error31 code, but SystemRestore fixed that. Now, when I look at Driver Details for my DVD Drive, there is only the 'cdrom.sys' driver listed. Is that all that's required? Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers I have 'ATA Channel 0 and 1' and 'Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller'. I have 2 SCSI HD's and my SCSI DVD Drive and 1 IDE HD. Under Storage Controllers I have 'ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Controller', 'ATI RAID Console' and 'Microsoft iSCSI Initiator'. Do I need all of those? Apologies, but I know not a lot about computers nowadays. Technology has moved on without me. |

| | Re: CD/DVD Rom Issue Mmmkay, I've been through and deleted what was there in the filters previously. No Upperfilters were present, but I had a Lowerfilters and Lowerfilters_1, both of which I have deleted. Devcon runs in 32-bit mode on Vista but not 64-bit and here's what it returned: " SCSI\CDROM&VEN_TSSTCORP&PROD_CDDVDW_SH-S203B\4&1263B6B0&0&000800 Name: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B SCSI CDRom Device Setup Class: (4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318) CDROM Controlling service: cdrom 1 matching device(s) found. " I attempted to use Devcon to install the proper filters, but my use of syntax, or something else caused it to say "devcon failed". I'm going to attempt to locate a good all-round Burning Package soon, but I don't have the money to buy anything hefty. Once it's installed I'll see if it causes any other problems. ______________________________________ "Cal Bear '66" wrote: Quote: > Try this: > > http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461 > > > I Bleed Blue and Gold > GO BEARS! > > > "Vorinia" <Vorinia@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:5100D287-F51A-45FE-B957-560B1EEB4975@xxxxxx Quote: > > I've tried searching for a similar issue to mine, but can find nothing that > > works thus far so I'll post this in hope that someone can help. > > > > My DVD/CD-ROM Drive is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B SCSI CdRom Device (as > > listed in Device Manager) and will no longer burn anything. > > Due to my lack of experience with Vista, previously I had installed Nero 6 > > and 7 (at different times) and Roxio MyDVD8 and believe this to be where the > > error began. > > > > I had previously had the Error31 code, but SystemRestore fixed that. > > > > Now, when I look at Driver Details for my DVD Drive, there is only the > > 'cdrom.sys' driver listed. | | Re: CD/DVD Rom Issue OK, I can now burn DVD's etc in Windows Vista. I can create Video DVD's with a bit more jiggery-pokery than I would like (Creating the actual DVD ISO on an XP machine and burning it using ISO Recorder on my Vista machine). But, after deleting the Upper/Lower Filters in the RegEdit and rebooting numerous times, none of these entries have re-appeared. I installed Roxio Easy Media Creator 10, as this is apparently Vista-compatible, and in the Home Page of the program it says "No Drive Detected". I went back to the RegEdit and I had "LowerFilters" (with no Value) and "LowerFilters_1" with a value of "PxHlpa64" (or similar spelling). No UpperFilter whatsoever. Presuming this to be the problem (as 99% of these problems occur because of this) I deleted both LowerFilter entries and rebooted. Now I have no entries, and EMC still does not detect a drive. I can boot from BIOS using the Vista Install DVD, I can run the install DVD from Vista itself, I can play CD's. I uninstalled EMC10, and removed the DVD Drive from Device Manager, then rebooted. No Change. I reinstalled EMC10. No Change. Anyone got any other ideas (which don't involve re-installing Vista)? If it comes to reinstalling Vista, I'm getting my money back and rolling back to XP. At least that was somewhat user-friendly and understandable, lol. |
