Epson Perfection V500 Photo and scanning negatives

The default software that comes with the Epson scanner is great for everything but the negatives I want to scan. The sizes they let you select for the negatives don't match the negatives I am working with. So instead of seeing 8 separate pictures it sees 6.

I downloaded Vuescan from VueScan Scanning Software and it at least lets you scan the whole negatives strip. I then can select each individual picture and do a final scan. It's slower this way, but at least I don't miss any pictures.

The default software is faster and would be great if it was able to detect the size of each negative. When I am just scanning photos though it does detect each picture, separate em, and perform the color restoration on each. I am scanning really old pictures and negatives from 1960 to 1980.

The scanner itself is wonderful. It uses LED's instead of bulbs to generate the light. So there is no warm up time. Much faster than using most other scanners. The negatives/slide holder is flimsy though. It seems easy to break.

Is there a question here or are you just spamming for the link you provided?

Re: Epson Perfection V500 Photo and scanning negatives

Just relaying my experience with the product really. Although if you know of a way to make the default software correctly detect the size of the negatives, I'd be thrilled to hear it. I'd be happy if I could just scan the entire strip and manually identify each picture with the default software. I like the default software better than Vuescan for anything but negatives right now.

I have to use Vuescan when working with negatives in order to get all the shots.

If you know of a negatives holder that is well built that works with the Epson V500 please let me know. 20oz pop bottles are made of a tougher plastic than the one it comes with. It will definately break after a certain number of uses. I'm doing my best to be very gentle.
