Vista - CDR running extremely slow...

...since latest download of numerous updates..
just burning two folders of jpgs onto a disc for the wife is taking 5-10 min..
the drive seems to be running in bursts... spinning for a few seconds, then
winding down.

It has NEVER done this prior to the latest updates.

The entire comp is under a year old.

Drive: LITE-ON DVD C LH52C1P ATA
Driver: Microsoft 6.0.6000.16386

to make matters worse.. the discs I was able to slowly burn last night..
wouldnt show any data on the wifes laptop

Im working on another this morning.. but thought I should ask here.

Its worth noting: the latest patches also caused a Code 12 error for my :
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
