    HArdware

I have just installed Vista Beta3 on my PC but I am experiencing problems
with hardware not working. At first everything seemed to work OK I could
connect to the internet and all was right with the world but I have lost my
DVD CDROM mouse and now my network connection as disappeared. I can get the
mouse to work by starting the OS and then physically removing the mouse and
reconnecting it. I installed the software as an upgrade rather than a fresh
install. Any ideas or should I reinstall as fresh install?

Interesting, I have had the same problem with Beta 2. I also can't install
drivers for anything, installer gets half way through and then freezes.

    Any idea's??

    RE: HArdware

I would not install as an update. I did a dual boot install, but did a clean
install of Vista. That way everything is fresh. Vista will find many
hardware drivers on its own or from the internet. I do notice that it often
reinstalls some device, especially if it has been disconnected. You'll need
to experiment with some drivers, as I've had instances where the XP driver
supplied by my computer manufacturer worked better than the driver Vista
installed. I've never had basic services such as CD ROM disappear. That
    seems odd.

I am having similar problems. I connected my HP Scanjet and Vista led me thru
the install. It knows the item is there (as seen in Device Manager along with
my Logitech QuickCam) and it show the scanner (not the camera) in the control
panel Scanners and Cameras. However...neither windows fax and scan nor photo
gallery, the 2 places help says to go to initiate a scan, can actually create
a scan. Photo Gallery doesn't even find the scanner, and fax and scan tries
but just ends by saying it can't complete the scan. Heck, still haven't found
a way to use my MS wireless IntelliMouse properly yet...no control over the
buttons. I'm wondering what they are trying to do...can't use a lot of my old
software, but THEIR replacement software doesn't seem to work either. (ACDSee
    vs Photo Gallery, eg)

I went and bought a 250Gb H/D this afternoon to do a complete install of
Vista. The installation started at 5:30 this afternoon and its still
installing (time is now 8:35) its still doing something as the h/d light is
    flashing.

    UPDATE!

I tried to use VueScan to work my scanner. No go...BUT I installed the
drivers for my scanner that came with vuescan and now Photoshop and HP's
PrecisionScan Pro access the scanner with no trouble. I don't know how their
driver is different than HP's own driver, but it works!

They didn't. There is NO Vista Beta 3. Must have been a case of
    over-enthusiasm or just a typo

    UPDATE.
What a differnce a CPU can make. I have just purchased a dual core 3Ghz CPU
and motherboard. It now takes only 45 mins from "go to whoa" installing
Vista!. Vista now works at least as fast as XP.
