| | PCMCIA IEEE 1394 Recently, after much vacillation between getting Windows XP or Vista on a new laptop purchase, I settled on a Gateway laptop with Vista Home Premium. I just bought an Adaptec Fireconnect IEEE 1394 PCMCIA card to perform some video capture. The Adaptec website said there should be Vista drivers available on the Vista CD (wrong!). Well, when I plugged in the card, the computer failed to detect the card. I called Adaptec tech support and was told that they do not have Vista drivers for this device. The Vista compatibility support page lists no compatible PCMCIA 1394 cards (unless I'm looking in the wrong place) Surely someone must have found a 1394 that works with Vista by now! If so, let me know. Or perhaps you can advise me as to why my laptop completed failed to detect the card when I plugged it in. Shouldn't it have at least recognized a new device? |

| | Re: PCMCIA IEEE 1394 Manufactures are responsible for drivers of their devices. According to Microsoft’s site: http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Pro...&cid=101&f=86p There is no Adaptec hardware compatibility in the compatibility list for Windows Vista. Although, the strange thing is that even if you don’t have drivers Windows should find the PCMCIA as device. Is it possible for you to test it to another laptop? If so please do it to check out if the device is working right. Please inform me about it. Meantime I’m working for these drivers. Stanos |

| | Re: PCMCIA IEEE 1394 I'll try the device in my son's XP laptop tonight and let you know. I had already been to the link you provided and was surprised to find such a short list of compatible devices (the RICOH is for a copier device) Also a second call to Adaptec support says that regarding IEEE devices, Microsoft is responsible for the drivers. I'm not overly familiar with using the Knowledge Base, but do the results I got for an "IEEE" search reveal problems in general between Vista and IEEE devices? Thanks for your help... | | Re: PCMCIA IEEE 1394 It seems that Vista does not support many of the devices. By vsearching found that in Service pack 1 all these problems are going to be resolved. For your issue, take a look to the following article : Windows Vista does not enumerate an IEEE 1394a device that you connect to the computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927827/en-us Stanos |
