| | Delete Scanner? I recently purchased a new scanner and removed the old one from Device Manager (it no longer appears there), but the old scanner continues to pop up as a selection under scanning programs, and I get update reminders for the drivers. Is there a way to permanently remove it from my system? OS is Windows Home Premium. Thanks for any help! |

| | Re: Delete Scanner? Nope, and I have searched the HD and removed all references to the hardware (Epson 2480 Scanner). Probably a registry entry somewhere? You would think than uninstalling in Device manager would eliminate... | | Re: Delete Scanner? Is there an entry for that removed scanner in 'add/remove' programs? If so that is the correct place to remove it. Should have been no need to manually remove it from Device manager as it should not show up if it is not installed. I would unplug the new scanner, check in the Add/Remove programs for any scanner software (including your new one) and remove all that I could find. Reboot and then reinstall the stuff for the new scanner. | | Re: Delete Scanner? Thanks Mike, No entries anywhere; uninstall/reinstall the new one is the next step <sigh>. Just thought there might be an easier way to kill the beast. Added to the experiences I've had with Vista that, even after going through the exercise, I may well find the same problem. Doc H. | | Re: Delete Scanner? ,Thanks All. Deleted every conceivable reference to Epson, cleaned registry, rolled down Windows, rolled up Windows, did a little dance, bowed to the East, rebooted and reinstalled all new software and apparently the witch is dead. No reference to the old hardware. This is soooo easy. I bet Granny, when she gets her new computer for Christmas, will be able to do this every day without a hitch and will be sooo pleased that her computer works just like her toaster - turn it on and it runs flawlessly.... | | Re: Delete Scanner? Maybe, but I find Granny very reluctant to install or alter anything on her machine. She'll has little trouble with it that way. | | Re: Delete Scanner? Ah, but someday an on-by-default automatic update torpedo, waiting in the wings, will render Granny's Vista system so much scrap metal, without Granny ever turning a hair or changing anything...then Granny will learn to cuss....:-) "Wandering" wrote: Quote: > Maybe, but I find Granny very reluctant to install or alter anything on her > machine.
