Vista - all my cd-rom and dvd roms are gone?

all my cd-rom and dvd roms are gone?

I BELIEVE after one of the updates not sure which one yet. but all my cd/dvd
roms went bye bye they show up in the device manager but no other place. this
is what the device manager says "Windows cannot load the device driver for
this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Have you rebooted the computer?
Have you tried reinstalling the OS?

Have you tried uninstalling the updates? Have you tried System Restore?
