| Vista Ultimate x32 | System Volume Information I find that I have over 305GB tied up in the folder for System Volume Information. I believe it is used for system restores but this is ridiculous. Any suggestions on how to purge it without impacting my system which is Vista Ultimate? Last edited by jmjprince; 12-31-2007 at 05:18 PM.. Reason: Found the answer under disk clean up |

| | Re: System Volume Information How large is the drive? NTFS should be using about 15%. | | Re: System Volume Information Rather than have just one system restore point why don’t you allocate a finite amount of space to it. To reduce the amount of space, open an elevated command prompt by clicking the Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Accessories and right-click Command Prompt, then ‘Run as Administrator’. To display the current parameters type (or copy and paste) “vssadmin list shadowstorage” (not the quotes but the spaces) and press Enter. To reduce (or increase) the disk space allocated, type (or copy and paste) “vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=c: /for=c: /maxsize=3GB” (not the quotes but the spaces) and press Enter. This example assumes changing the space on drive C to 3GB. You may find that all the restore points have been removed after resizing so make sure the computer is behaving itself before reducing the space allocation. Also, make a manual restore point immediately after resizing. "jmjprince" wrote: Quote: > > It is a 450GB drive.
