no sound after i got a new graphics card.

hey, i upgraded my graphics card (ATI HD3850) on my computer and it works
fine but i no longer have sound on my computer. i tryed updating the drivers
and changing the settings and still no sound. when i take out the graphics
card i have sound again. i asked bestbuy and they said that i shorted out
something on the motherboard, i told them that when i take the card back out
i have sound again and they were clueless about what to do. nobody that i've
talked to has ever heard of this happening. they said it seems like a driver
conflict and to upgrade the drivers, but that didn't work. does anyone have
    any ideas?

Yes, BestBuy techs are often clueless. Try putting the sound card in a
different PCI slot, one not next to the video card.

Re: no sound after i got a new graphics card.

sorry, i should have been more specific, when i got the computer it only had
an oboard graphics and onboard sound, there was is no stand alone graphic or
sound cards, i then upgraded the graphics card but the sound card is still
onboard, so i can't move it to a different PCI slot as it is on the
motherboard. maybe this is where the problem is... should i upgrade the sound
card along with the graphic card? bestbuy said that i shouldn't have to do
this... i've never had to upgrade these cards before because i've only had
    laptops priviously. thanks.

Yes, knowing what hardware you actually have would have been helpful,
but that's OK. Before you go and buy a PCI sound card, go into your BIOS
and change your default graphics card from onboard to AGP (or PCIe,
whichever you have). While you're in there, make sure the onboard sound
    is enabled.
