Mobile Device Center Connect problems / Vista 64Bit

I am having trouble getting my nice new (and previous ) phone to connect to Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center.
I have Vista Ultimate 64bit and am trying to connect an HTC TyTN II phone(using WindowsMobile 6).
Installed WMDC and Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver forVista (64-bit), if I switch the phone to Active Sync and connect the USB cable I see the Gren Ball twisting for about 30sec, then it greys out. Also when I plug in the USB lead if I look at System /Device Manager / Network Adapters, when I plug the USB lead in, Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter #2 appears, when I disconnect the USB lead the Mobile Remote Adapter #2 disappeares.
So it seems that Vista is recognising the device OK, but the device is just not being recognised by WMDC.
I am using NOD32 Protection but have stopped that from starting and still get the problem.
Had exactly the same problem with my Mitac PDA on this machine.

All help appreciated

Thanks Ed
