video shreading

I have a nivida 7600agp with 512mb memory
any time I change my video driver with a new driver I get video shreading on
secondary screens like cancel / continue pop-up etc
I ve had to go back to an august 2006 driver to keep from having this problem.
I think it is a refresh problem as all I am allowed is 60hz I use 1024/768
res 32bit high res.
