CPU Speed

Hi

I have Vista Ultimate.

My CPU is a Pent D Extreme Edition 3.2 Ghz, when I run CPU-Z it shows Core
Speed
at 2800.4 or lower, dropping below 2798.1 at times.

Why is that, how do I get it to run at 3200 all the time?

thanks

Daniel

It's built to throttle down when full speed is not needed.
This keeps it cooler and saves energy. It will run at full speed
when there are tasks to be done. Why would you
want it to run at full speed just running an idle loop?

Re: CPU Speed

BIOS FSB is 800,
I cannot find Multiplier in BIOS but
CPU-Z reports it as 16.

cheers

Re: CPU Speed

From Intel...
"Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology allows the system to dynamically adjust
processor voltage and core frequency, which can result in decreased average
power consumption and decreased average heat production. By decreasing power
and heat on Desktop PCs, system builders can (depending on system
configurations) potentially lower acoustics, and even develop more
innovative small form factor designs. Additionally, this feature can help
address power concerns in companies with sites approaching the limits of
bounded electrical infrastructures. Combined with existing power saving
features, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology can provide an excellent
balance between providing power when you need it and conserving it when you
don't

Re: CPU Speed

try adjusting your power mode setting and see if it helps.

you are probably using balanced. it allows the cpu to throttle down.

""try adjusting your power mode setting and see if it helps.

I am using "High Performance" power options with nothing turning off

"Enhanced Intel SpeedStep " is not available, the option does not appear
on my Motherboard..
""Why would you

""
I would have thought the CPU would run at full speed when being tested

cheers

Re: CPU Speed

Perfectly normal, the CPU will throttle down when there's nothing to do.
