Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

Make sure you don't have both the VGA and the DVI cable connected to your
monitor especially if your monitor does not have the ability to select
between the two input connections.
If you perform a F8 safe mode boot do you see the BIOS screen and not the
windows screens when you are using a DVI to DVI cable?

Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

i will get back to you on that. i don't want you to think i'm not answering
you. i'm only using the dvi cable. i tested this a few ways. I was talking to
my wife about this and she reminded me that we had broght this pc up to a
shop and they connected a lcd monitor to the pc and it came up fine. that's
when i got suspicious of the monitor. when the pc first comes up i see the
bios screen then it loses connection between that point and the microsoft
scorporation logo and the sliding scale bar. once i unplug the cable and plug
it in it's ok.

Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

Apparently you are not sending the monitor a resolution that it will accept
over its DVI interface.
Boot up in F8 Safe mode and Windows should run in safe mode. While in safe
mode change the resolution that you are sending out over the DVI connection
to the native resolution of the monitor. The next time you boot in normal
mode the monitor should be working.

Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

ok i'll try that. at the risk of sounding stupid how do i know what the
native resolution of the monitor is. i don't have a manual for it. why can't
i just adjust the resolution in my computer?

Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

Get the model number off the back and look it up on the manufacturer's
website.

Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

1024 X 768 which is the max i can go. i got a manual online and the manual
says the max resolution for the monitor is 1680 X 1054. i have it at 60hz. i
can't seem to get the resolution rate of 1680 X 1054 anywhere. i'm going to
ask xfx if there's any updates i can get. i did try to update the driver for
the card and i lost the signal again

Re: Monitor Loses signal on boot up

I spent several weeks trying every type of troubleshooting technique
I could find to save my ViewSonic monitor. It was working perfectly
for over a year before the problem developed. I'm convinced the problem
lies with the integrated power supply within the monitor itself.
