Vista - ATI Radeon 1950 Pro drivers won't run in Windows Vista

ATI Radeon 1950 Pro drivers won't run in Windows Vista

I keep getting a message

' Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the
driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code
is 43.'

I've got a dual boot system and this runs perfectly well in XP pro, I've
tried installing different drivers and uninstalling the hardware etc.
I've tried running the hotfix drivers from the sapphire website and it still
won't work,
any ideas out there?

Re: ATI Radeon 1950 Pro drivers won't run in Windows Vista

Are you using the 8.2 Catalyst drivers?

Hi Mike,

Double check that you are using the latest ATI 8.2 version drivers directly from AMD (owns ATI).

Drivers & Software

Hope this helps,

Re: ATI Radeon 1950 Pro drivers won't run in Windows Vista

In the past I have had problems with ATI drivers, after an update, for some
reason not all the ATI files were updated & there was a version missmatch
problem. I cured this by locateing a video driver removal utility which
enabled me to remove/delete all ATI vid drivers. The new driver installation
was then successfull

Re: ATI Radeon 1950 Pro drivers won't run in Windows Vista

But have you removed all old ATI drivers?

Re: ATI Radeon 1950 Pro drivers won't run in Windows Vista

Thanks Colin,
for anyone interseted i found the following on the ATI site -

"Attempting to install the graphics driver on a system containing an NVidia
NF3 chipset and an ATI AGP graphics adapter may result in the driver failing
to install and the 3D engine not activating.

In Windows Vista 32bit or 64bit versions, the Device Manager will show a (!)
mark and the AGP card will operate in PCI mode only. When the properties of
the device are shown, the error code will show as code 43.

This issue has been seen with other AGP chipsets such as VIA and SiS but has
since been resolved by chipset driver updates from these manufacturers.

AMD’s AGP adapters require correctly functioning AGP support from the
operating system in order to run the WDDM driver under Vista. This WDDM
driver has no way of working around the absence of AGP support."

Neither ASrock or Nvidia show drivers for nForce3 that are compatible with
Vista, does anyone have any?
