Vista - Sata disk doesnt work in vista, Need help fast!

hi.
just changed motherboard to k8n sli platinum
but now i cannot use my sata HDD , vista just wont boot when the disk is
connected. it just keep on going forever in the boot up screen.

but in linux , bart pe and other free dos program, it works just fine.
i tried to formate it in all of these OS but still no way to boot in vista,
i even cant boot from the vista disk with the HDD connected.

NOTE: i juse an IDE HDD to run my system, so the sata disk is just a storage
HDD.

if i leave the sata disk without any partition or format ,i can boot up in
vista.
but when i go to disk manager in vista and trie to formate it in vista, it
just freez the program and i got to close the disk manager. but vista still
work, next time i restart its back to the same , just staying forever on the
boot up screen.


tried like every think i know about, even tried to reinstall vista and the
sata driver.

does any one know how to fix this ?
i really hope.

When you see it in disk manager, does it show up as a basic or dynamic disk?

because i get to choose "convert to dynamic disk"

Changed FROM what? Unless it was a near-identical mobo using a
near-identical chipset, Vista probably thinks you've moved it to a different
computer. When Vista was installed - on the old mobo - Setup customized it
to fit THAT environment. Now, the bedroom is where the kitchen used to be
and Vista can't find the toaster anywhere. Everything works, but Vista
can't find it. :>(

With WinXP, we practically always had to to a Repair Install (also known as
an in-place upgrade) to let Setup re-customize WinXP to fit the new
configuration. With Vista, you'll need to boot from the Vista DVD-ROM and
let it Repair the boot system. If you plan to BOOT from that SATA HDD, you
might need to incorporate drivers for it during the Setup process; if it
will be only a non-boot drive, then Vista's built-in drivers should handle
it.
HOW did you try this - step by step - and what happened? Any error
messages?
Usually IDE HDDs are seen before any SATA, SCSI or other devices, but
something in your BIOS may be causing Vista to see your lineup differently
so it is looking on the wrong drive for its boot-up files (BCD).

To head off future question/answer exchanges, please tell us more about your
computer. Which version of Vista, especially whether it is a retail package
or OEM pre-installed on your previous mobo?

i changed from abit kn8 sli [chipset nforce4]
the new one is nforce 570 sli

when i installed vista again i didnt get any error, same with the sata
driver , no error.
installed every thing just as normal.

i can provide more information if i just know the command to gather
information of the computer.

You answered SOME of my questions, but left out some of the most important
information. :^{
Detailed information about your computer might be helpful, but what helps
most is basic stuff like:

Make and model of the computer or motherboard/chipset, which you now have
given us some of. (My own computer uses an EPoX MF570sli motherboard; as
the name suggests, it also uses the nVidia nForce 570 SLI chipset.)

How many hard drives and their interfaces (IDE, SATA, etc.), how big, how
are they partitioned and formatted, which is Disk 0, which is designated in
the BIOS as the boot device, etc.; you haven't given us a straightforward
list, but you've told us enough that we can pretty well figure this out.

As I asked earlier: Which version of Vista, especially whether it is a
retail package
or OEM pre-installed on your previous mobo?

And, perhaps most important, another question I asked earlier: HOW did you
try this - step by step - and what happened? Any error
messages? I ask again: HOW did you install Vista? Did you boot from the
Vista DVD-ROM? Which HDD was Disk 0 at that time? Was your SATA drive
showing up on the FIRST screen as you boot up, showing devices the BIOS
detected during POST?

This basic information is what we need to help you diagnose the problem.
And we have NO idea what kinds of magic you may have worked using those
other operating systems. I've never used "linux , bart pe and other free
dos program," so I have NO idea of what effect those might have had on your
system. :>(

We probably have gleaned enough facts from your posts to conclude that, YES,
you do need to do a fresh install of Vista. Unplug your SATA drive, leaving
only the IDE and DVD connected. Insert the Vista DVD and boot from it to
run Setup and install Vista on the IDE. When Vista is running right, shut
down and plug in the SATA drive. Make sure your BIOS settings are correct
to recognize both the IDE and the SATA drives. Be sure the BIOS is set to
boot from Hard Drive, and from the IDE HDD. Then power-on again. Vista
should boot as before. Then use Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) to partition
the HDD and format each partition.

Please post back and tell us - STEP BY STEP - what happened as you followed
each step of those instructions, including the verbatim text of any error
messages.

You've posted 4 messages and we still don't know if you are using Vista Home
Basic x86 or Vista Ultimate x64 - or some other version. You don't need ANY
command to answer these basic questions. You just need to look at your
computer - which you can see and we cannot. Remember, this is not MY
