Vista - HP LaserJet 3150 Fax / Printer Driver

I, too want to add my voice to the growing chorus of those of us who have
perfectly functional HP LaserJet 3150 Printers, which work exceptionally well
with Windows XP Professional but not, for some unfathomable reason, with
Vista.

I feel it is up to Microsoft to write (what apparently is) a very simple
little printer driver, which will provide 3150 owners with just some simple,
very basic functionality so we can continue to use these workhorse devices
until they fade away on their own, many years from now.

With so many other (much older) drivers already built into Vista, and legacy
support readily available in Windows XP, there is absolutely no reason to
discriminate against those of us who still have very servicable "middle age"
printers.

Now, HP may need to step up to the plate later on here too, but right now
the ball is squarely in Microsoft's court.

If nothing else they can take the existing XP driver and simply port it over
to Vista.

No big deal, right?

I two have the HP 3150 printer and it is dead in the water for right now. To
take note on the below issue, Microsoft does not write drivers for these
products. The product manufacturer (HP) makes a driver that is a "basic"
driver to run out of the box. The Mfg then writes a driver with all the
functions for the printer/etc. I know this does not help, but blame HP, they
are the ones that are dragging their heels. Looks like the Number 1 PC maker
now could have their act together for the many beta users out there using the
printer products they have.

I will just have to plug in my Brother printer for right now and complain to
HP about not having a driver to make this happen.

I also have a 3150 and can't use it with Vista. I did a little research and
I gather that this printer is a little more complicated to write a driver
for than other printers. I don't know why. Also, I learned that this
printer is not manufactured by HP. They just slap their name on it and
other company made it for them. So, that could also come into play. It
does say on the HP website that they will be releasing Vista drivers in the
future. I hope they don't forget this nice little printer.
