That's usually a BIOS setting. Press F2 or F1 repeatedly at bootup to get
into the BIOS.

Re: How to Set the NUM LOCK State before Logon in Windows Vista

Set it in your BIOS which you see when you start to BOOT-UP.

Usually you will see a SETTINGS and a KEY to PRESS

http://www.computerhope.com/help/bios.htm

You can also set the NUMLOCK to be ON after a boot and even
after specific uses LOGIN,,, see last part of this :

The same as it was in XP,
If numlock is ON when you shut down, it will be on at your next Boot.

Re: How to Set the NUM LOCK State before Logon in Windows Vista

If the NumLock is on when you shut down it will be on when the computer boots
up, but only after the user logs on. Also, the HP dv9700 doesn't have an
option to turn on the NumLock in the Bios.

Re: How to Set the NUM LOCK State before Logon in Windows Vista

OK, you might try the following that worked in XP, and might also work in
Vista,

Type: Q314879 on your Internet explorer address line.

Good luck,
Jerry

Re: How to Set the NUM LOCK State before Logon in Windows Vista

In the Start Search box, type 'regedit<enter>'

Navigate to:

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard]

In the right-hand pane, change to value of 'InitialKeyboardIndicators' to 2

Re: How to Set the NUM LOCK State before Logon in Windows Vista

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I had already done that. That script
prompts for the NumLock choice after login. I don't think it can be done.
I've never seen a computer that doesn't allow for NumLock on in my 25 years
experience in tech support.
