Vista - Scanner not Recognized "Unknown Device in USB list"

I have just bought a new PC with Vista Home Premium installed.

I then wanted to use my old Medion MD 90009 USB scanner, which has worked
perfectly well in XP. (Scanner is equivalent to Scan Maker 6100)

I get the message: Unrecognized device, Unable to install". In Device
Manager it is listed as Unknown USB Device.

I found indications in the Internet that a ScanWizard driver newer than the
one I installed from the Scanner Installation CD could solve the problem,
but this didn't work either.

Does anybody have a clue and preferably a remedy?

well the bad news is the scanner may not work with Vista but the good news
is you get to buy a new scanner that does. This was also one of the problems
with xp when it first came out.
Some manufactures would not write drivers for their pre-xp scanners but some
did.
I had to purchase a new printer/scanner for vista because Lexmark would not
write
drivers for the x75 I had. So I now have a Cannon MP470 which works fine
with Vista and the
ink is cheaper. Lexmark lost a customer because of this.
