| | USB Mouse & KYBD non-functional after recent update I have read other posts on this subject, but cannot try to apply the suggested solutions. I have neither a mouse nor a keyboard working. When I try to get into Safe Mode, the desktop comes up, but I cannot interact wthout a mouse/keyboard. I booted to the Vista DVD, and restored to earlier times - twice - and the problem persists. The mouse and keyboard work when I boot from the Vista DVD. I am using a Dell E521 with Vista Home Basic. I called Dell support, but nothing they tried worked either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

| | RE: USB Mouse & KYBD non-functional after recent update i have been having the same problem with my mouse (dell) after vista upgrade. i contacted dell and their great solution was to rebuild my system which i refused to do. after restarting my system and pressing the F8 key i was able to get into a safe mode which allowed me to go into safe mode and i as able to restore to the previous configuration. this fixed the problem at the time, but the next morning it reloaded the upgrade again and i had to do the same procedure all over again. i contacted dell again and was told that so far i was the only user with this problem and that i needed to notify microsoft so that they could fix the problem in the next upgrade. i did notify microsoft and they referred me to this discussion group and were not aware of this problem. i am pullling my hair out trying to figure this out. | | Re: USB Mouse & KYBD non-functional after recent update thanks and i already have my setting set for this option. my problem now is that when my norton tries to update, i get error messages, that figures. can yu believe that dell support told me to wait 2 weeks until microsoft fixes the problem and then try to load the upgrade again. my mouse is a dell 2 button usb connection (non-wireless). i have tried all 4 usb ports and it still didn't fix the problem. -- rowdy123 "t-4-2" wrote: Quote: > > rowdy123;681271 Wrote: Quote: > > i have been having the same problem with my mouse (dell) after vista > > upgrade. > > i contacted dell and their great solution was to rebuild my system > > which i > > refused to do. after restarting my system and pressing the F8 key i was > > able to get into a safe mode which allowed me to go into safe mode and > > i as > > able to restore to the previous configuration. this fixed the problem > > at > > the time, but the next morning it reloaded the upgrade again and i had > > to do > > the same procedure all over again. i contacted dell again and was told > > that > > so far i was the only user with this problem and that i needed to > > notify > > microsoft so that they could fix the problem in the next upgrade. i did > > notify microsoft and they referred me to this discussion group and were > > not > > aware of this problem. i am pullling my hair out trying to figure this > > out. > > > > "saseve" wrote: Quote: > > > > > > > > > I have read other posts on this subject, but cannot try to apply the > > > > suggested solutions. You might be barking at the wrong tree. May be someone with more superior knowledge will give you a better solution. Additional info : Should you really decide to rid of Norton, I hear Norton is a stubborn sob. There would/could be remnants left behind causing havoc. You need a software to do a thorough uninstalling. I don't know what that is. Ask this forum, whole bunch of them will have the answer for you. You've got everything I know. Keep me posted if you don't mind. Last edited by t-4-2; 04-12-2008 at 03:50 PM.. |

| | Re: USB Mouse & KYBD non-functional after recent update t-4-2, Thanks for the reply. I have a Dell E521 Desktop. Unfortunately, it was not possible to try ANY solution, because I could not input anything via mouse or keyboard. Even Safe mode didn;t work. Only when I booted from the Vista DVD was I able to use the mouse. I eventually booted from my Ghost 12.0 disk and re-installed an old image from 1-23-08. saseve "t-4-2" wrote: Quote: > > saseve;680710 Wrote: Quote: > > I have read other posts on this subject, but cannot try to apply the > > suggested solutions. | | USB Mouse non-functional after recent Vista update It appears the people above are correct on the problem occuring after the update. The update was from 04-12-08. If you can boot to last known configuration, do so and then immediately go into Control Panel\Windows Updates and turn off automatic updates. For those of us unfortunate enough to not have this as an option (last known configuration doesn't solve the problem), I am clueless as to how to fix this. I've been working on Windows since version 2.5 and never have been this frustrated over an issue. I removed the USB controller and root hubs from device manager. Uninstalled and reinstalled intellimouse software and even tried mice from 3 different brands hoping that it was a specific driver issued instead of a generic HID device driver. None of these things have worked. Has anybody made any progress on this issues? Thanks! |
