| | Windows detected a hard disk problem I just installed Vista Business SP1 on an HP dx5150 that has two Samsung 1Tb Sata drives in a RAID-1 using the builtin Sata RAID controller. I get periodic messages saying "Windows detected a hard disk problem", and the system event log has warning events: "The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent." As the machine was just installed I had no data to preserve, so I downloaded the Samsung Estools ISO image, made a CD, booted from it, and ran a full test on both disks without any problems being detected. So it seems that the warning being generated spurious, and due to a driver and/or software error rather than an actual problem with either of the disks. Nick Payne |
