Vista - RE: Catalyst Beta Driver for Windows Vista Build 5308

I'm having trouble installing the Catalyst Vista 5308 drivers. I am following
the directions in the install notes, but when it tries to install, the
installer just waits forever until I cancel out of it (the installer UI is
still responsive). My Radeon 9550 256MB card seems to had default drivers
installed by build 5308, so I already do get the Aero Glass effects, but I'd
like to test ATI's drivers.

Anyone suffering from the same problem?

If there are any .INF files, try right clicking on them and selecting
"Install". I had a trouble with some drivers of a previous build, and this
did the trick for me )

If you have the vista ATI drivers installed then the ATI drivers will not
install.
You must set it as VGA drivers.

Thanks! I'll try that out (though I dread seeing Vista in VGA mode, even for
a little while :-) )

So, I tried what you suggested last night and now I'm in worse shape than
before. I set the driver to VGA and attempted to install the new ATI beta
catalyst drivers for Vista, and it still gave the same problem. I then booted
into safe mode and attempted it, and attempting the driver installation gave
me a slightly different error - it said there's an error adding the drivers
to the driver store.

Finally, after giving up on the beta Catalyst Vista drivers, I found that I
couldn't get Vista back to my original config. The built-in Radeon Vista
drivers are no longer there! So, at this point, I'm stuck in VGA mode :-(

Am I just out of luck or is any of this a known problem to ATI and/or MS?
