Mic Mute/Unmute Button

In XP, I'd click on the speaker icon in the system tray and have a mixer.
There I could mute/unmute the microphone input.

In Vista it seems like I have to go through a myriad of dialog boxes: Ctrl
Panel > sound > speakers > Level.

Am I misisng something? Is there a shorter path? If not, can I assign a
shortcut key?

Thank you

RE: Mic Mute/Unmute Button

F8 used to be the shortcut Key to Mute or Unmute in XP, when it was up and
running!
There is also a setting for it in Media Player.

RE: Mic Mute/Unmute Button

Thanks, Mick.

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "when it was up and running".

Re: Mic Mute/Unmute Button

The speaker in my system tray on both of my Vista systems works exactly the
same as it and yours did in XP.
Have you gone to control panel/taskbar.../notification area/ and checked
to be sure that the Volume Icon is checked?
