Vista will not install usb drivers for new devices

I have been trying to install a usb flash drive and a wireless notebook optical mouse onto my Lenovo R61 without success very frustrating.

    I am using Vista SP1.

When I attempt to load the devices I receive the following message.

WINDOWS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM INSTALLING THE DRIVER SOFTWARE FOR YOUR DEVICE.

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it ( usb mass storage for the flash drive and human interface device for the mouse ) There is no selected driver for the device information set or element.

I've been at this for days, does anyone have a solution.

Regarding the USB flash drive. Does Device Manager detect it? Using Computer,
can you access the flash drive and open it?

Also, have you contacted Lenevo for any solutions or possible drive updates?
