| | Screen darkens when in battery mode I just took my new Dell Inspiron 1420 out of the box yesterday, the OP is Vista Home Premium. The screen's brightness is great when the computer is plugged into the A/C adapter. But when I unplug the computer from the wall and use the battery the screen darkens up quite a bit, to the point that it's difficult to read. I changed the battery plan brightness level and that didn't work. I've adjusted the brightness using the keyboard keys but that didn't fix it either. Wondering if there's something I'm missing in the settings or if maybe this laptop needs to be sent back to Dell. Any suggestions? |

| Vista Enterprise x64 SP1 | Re: Screen darkens when in battery mode @ Brian Have you tried booting into the Bios (press F2 at first dell load screen) and under Video there are brightness settings for the laptop both with AC and without. Also ensure the ambient Light sensor is turned off - this is found in the same section in hte bios Last edited by Tyler Durden; 07-29-2008 at 03:40 AM.. |

| Vista 32bit SP1 | Re: Screen darkens when in battery mode The reason for the screen going dim is that the when unplug the adapter the system would use less battery to give you more time when the system is running on battery. If want brighter screen then, hold down fn key on the keyboard & then tap the up arrow key. if the you don't want to that then press F2 on the dell logo go the brightness option & change to the 7 or 8. Then save the settings & then restart the system. |
