| Guest | 2 Gig SD card issue resolved? Greetings. I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bit, SP1, and my multi SD card reader can't read 2 gig cards. It can read other cards with less than 2 gig. With the 2 gig card it just sits and tries to read it, doing nothing at all, no offer to format or even open a window to view. I've seen many others that have this issue. Has this been fixed to anyone's knowledge? Thanks in advance. -Mark |

| Guest | Re: 2 Gig SD card issue resolved? Visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card and read "Compatibility issues with 2 GB and larger cards". Your issue is due to your hardware limitation and not with Windows Vista. You'll need to purchase a more up-to-date memory card reader. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience - Windows Vista Enthusiast --------------------------------------------------------------- "Mark C" <NOSPAM@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OF4mmpY8IHA.1192@xxxxxx Greetings. | Guest | Re: 2 Gig SD card issue resolved? Carey, thank you for the response and the link. The link was unhelpful, my card reader is a new model, and works in Windows XP but not Vista. Many other people have reported this issue in many other forums. | Guest | Re: 2 Gig SD card issue resolved? I use 2GB and 4GB SD cards in my cheapo $5.00 memory card reader just fine. What model of reader are you using? Does the memory card read fine in other readers on other computers (Vista or otherwise)? -- Dustin Harper dharper@xxxxxx http://www.vistarip.com | Vista Resource & Information Page "Mark C" <NOSPAM@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OF4mmpY8IHA.1192@xxxxxx Quote: > Greetings. > I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bit, SP1, and my multi SD card reader can't > read 2 gig cards. Thanks in > advance. > -Mark > > I was having a similar issue with my 2GB card using Vista Business 32bit on an HP NC6400 laptop w/built-in card reader. I would get the "You Must Format This Volume" message, & when I tried, it would say that "Windows was unable to format this volume" I could boot into linux & use the card no problem! It also worked in XP on other PCs. After much hunting, I found this thread regarding a 4GB card: Integrated Card Reader 4GB SD Success - Notebooks - PC Hardware - Whirlpool Broadband Forums None of the new drivers made a difference, but making the following change to the registry key worked (as in above post)! Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tifm21\Parameters change the "SDParam" dword value from decimal "16" to decimal "1" & reboot. Hope this helps! -Mooch |

| Guest | RE: 2 Gig SD card issue resolved? I am having the same problem. I have a Lexar 9-in-1 reader that will read my 2gb SD card on XP desktop but not on my Vista 64-bit laptop. I checked the Lexar site and my reader has the necessary drivers for Vista. I also checked the Panasonic site for 2gb compatibility with my camera and all is well. Vista will recognize every other SD card less than 2 gb. If someone has a fix please let me know.
