Like many of you, I searched and searched for a legitimate way to solve the "HID data has stopped working" error. I am pleased to report that my system is running fine now and no longer gets this annoying message.
I apoligized if a similar suggestion has been posted previously, but here goes.
Soon after I bought my new laptop - HP dv5, I decided to see if my iPhone (another toy) would sync up via blue tooth. I was able to pair the devices but no luck with the sync. I abandoned my effort, but did not disable the blue tooth connection between the iPhone and the laptop. I also never made the connection between when the problem started and the day I paired the devices. WahLah.
I went into the control panel
under Hardware and Sound, then to Blue Tooth.
I removed the iPhone pairing, and there ya go. No more issues, and I did not have to disable any other features on my laptop.
Although the hint was a bit vague, I found some good stuff on HP.com under stupport on this topic. If you do not have a similar issue as me, or choose not to disable a blue tooth device (because you need it), they likely have a fix in the list of suggestions. Link is listed below. There is also a new patch at Microsoft that my be of interest http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941600/
Good luck all.... Ah... the pleasure of losing those pop up error messages!
