LG GSA-H62N (SATA) won't burn CD-R

I am having some trouble with my LG GSA-H62N Super Multi DVD Burner (SATA). It burns DVD's flawlessly, reads DVD and CD, but refuses to recognise a Blank CD-R disk (I've tried a number of different brands. I've updated firmware to CL01 to no avail. DVDINFO says it can read and WRITE CD-R's. Any ideas?. Could it be the SATA port - I also have 4 320gb Samsung SATA H/Drives. I've checked the Motherboard BIOS (ASUS P5b) and it says the DVD drive is at SATA 1. It also says my C drive is IDE although it is a SATA drive? In anticipation, thanks

What programs have you tried burning with and what are you trying to burn?

Cheetah, UltaIso and Nero. I might point out that I can't load a blank CD-R. The burner won't recognise it.

Hi, Norm.

Sounds like the DVD laser still works but the CD-writing laser is dead. I'm
no techie, so don't ask for details, but I had a problem like that with an
older DVD/CD read-only drive a year or two ago. I gave that player to my
grandson, so he could play DVDs in his computer, and bought myself a new
burner. ;<)

I have to agree...might be time to send that old LG to the graveyard an pick up a new one. Good news is they are only about $30-$40 on Newegg. I'd suggest a Pioneer, Samsung or Lite-On....never really been a fan of LG personally.

Thanks guys, coming to that conclusion myself. It reminds me of a bug I used to get with Xp on a pioneer DVD burner. After about 3 months it would consistently fail to recognise DVD's. That required a fresh windows install to fix. Nothing else worked. However I have now got Vista ticking over just fine so I think a new burner!!
